turbo question
My turbo is of one i have never heard of...Rajay is the manufacturer. It is a free float, non-wastgated turbo. I think I will look for a different one like one i have heard of before.
Here is a question....for choosing a turbo, i should go for a bigger one right? I always saw it as you want more volume then psi for a diesel?? how about you tell me.
Thanks.
ATS and BANKS both sell wastgated turbo's that work really well with our trucks. There are people pushing over 20lbs of boost using the ATS setup.
And bigger is not allways better when installing a turbo...
A large turbo will usually build higher numbers, but the RPM has to be high and it takes a long time to spool up.
With a 6.9, the farther you go over 10 or 12 PSI, the sooner you will be replacing head gaskets.
Head studs will keep the head gaskets in place up into the 20's, but 20 PSI is about all the intake gasket(valley pan), exhaust manifold gaskets, and the turbo up pipe connections can handle with out modifications.
Also if you are going over 20 PSI, then milled pistons are next on the list.
