ATS ported compressor housing

OK, stupid question. I'm buying the ats ported comp. housing, and was wondering if anyone had any specs on this, other than it has a 4" inlet rather than the stock 3" that my garrett has? will I need a larger compressor wheel? or will my wicked wheel work?

If you needed it Riff Raff would tell you. I checked the page and it comes with the upgraded boot and stuff like that, and it alone is supposed to eliminate surge so there would be no need for a new wheel, pretty sure your WW will work. post up how it does I'm interested in one

The compressor wheel will fit. They are designed to work with the stock wheel. All you do is unbolt the old and install the new.

Here are instructions from RiffRaff Diesel:

Completely bolt on product. You need nothing.

thanks, 1 more dumb question. when I do change this over, what can I do to increase boost? previous owner took the wastegate actuator off, I don't know if it is welded or not, have not take turbo off. in the event it has not been welded shut, should I get a banks big head and adjust from there? only pushing 21 psi.

If you have your stock wheel I would recommend putting it back on, unless you like a ear piercing whistle. Been there done that no like it.

The wastegate actuator should be installed or something to hold it closed tightly. I guess I would be curious to why it is off. The good news is that is the hardest part of swapping the housing out. With the actuator and E-clip gone it should go quickly.

I thought the wastegate had to be there. I'm with Ken, why was it removed?

The actual inducer of the compressor (inlet) remains exactly the same as stock. The 4" inlet is only there to allow room for the anti-surge porting. This is not "porting" as you may think that improves flow. It actually allows a portion of the air that is taken into the inlet to bypass back to the inlet......yep....reduction in flow.

Putting on the ported compressor housing will not increase boost. In some cases, it actually DECREASES boost.

Boost is simply a measurement of restriction and the stock turbocharger is only really thermally efficient to 18-20 PSI anyway (obviously depends on airflow too). Going much higher than that on a stock turbo increases heat that the intercooler has to try to get rid of and increases turbine drive pressure (read: reduces engine efficiency to the point that the engine works harder with ZERO gain in performance).

Put the compressor housing on ONLY if you're experiencing surge. Otherwise it's a waste of money. It will cure the surge of a stock turbocharger but it will not increase performance at all.

Can a VAN turbo compressor housing, be installed on a stock truck turbo? Reason i ask is the missing WG.

Come to think of it, isnt it the same, its the exhaust side that different
