1997 F-350 299K runs but misses have traced down #2 & #8 injectors not working unplug and no change also no oil out of deflector. My big worry is compression not real uniform #1-380 #2-335 #3-385 #4-345 #5-330 #6-350 #7-375 #8-335. What are the more experienced opinions will it be worth the 2 injectors and be driveable/reliable or not. Checked cold engine was waiting on a compression tester if that matters at all. Does anyone have have a couple cheap AA injectors just to make this a 8 cylinder again.
Remove all the glow plugs to check any cylinder. Crank the engine at least five revolutions and the same number of revolutions for each cylinder. It would probably be a good idea to have a battery charger hooked up during the test. Ford lists no compression specs for these engine, only stating the lowest cylinder should be no more than 25% lower than the highest cylinder, with a low to high comparison chart showing a range of 195 to 440 PSI.
Ideally the compression should be at least 350 psi.
I think your numbers are OK they are a little higher than mine when I tested last year trying to make sure I didn't have any serious cylinder problems. I also think they suggest the engine be warm for this test, well it took me a few days to get the covers off, and using a Harbor Freight tester was another challenge. I agree with what Husslers comments, the engine should be warm though.
Rich, a friend dragged me thru Harbor Freight the other day and I bought one for the heck of it. What was the challenge? I suppose they don't have the right fitting? I got the 93644 and if it doesn't have the right fitting what do I need to get? Sorry OP, I don't mean to highjack your post but in saying that I would like to do a compression test out of curiousity should be in line with your post.
I don't recall the PN of the one I bought but it came in nice red plastic universal type kit said on it that said it was for Powerstroke, so for about $35 I bought it. If IIRC it was for powerstrokes 94 and older the IDI (it didn't say that on the outside of the kit). but with a little duct tape and bailing wire I was able to make it work. I found that I could rent a professional one for about $15 a day, but I probably would pay a couple days rent and then have to drive 40 miles round trip to pick it up, then another 40 to return it. Besides that I hate rental stores, along time ago I managed one for about 12 years in Seattle.

Way to go Jose, that's a great answer to the problem of making the HF kit work.
I had to go to bed last night. So I found what I did this morning, and yes it is the same kit that I bought last year. Here is a picture of what I put together.
Glenn: I'll be glad to give you more details if you if you are interested in what I put together from the local hardware store.

Rich, that looks fine too, I only feel that seems rigid compared with the adaptor I posted, and IDK if that is good or not.
The double pic is for not to forget the first one?
And if you dont mine, tell us what you put together there. I suposse its cheaper in that way, because the Park parts are expensive.
Thanks Rich and Jose, I guess either way would be OK as long as it doesn't hit the rockers. I'm not planning on doing this now, maybe next winter. Its got new glow plugs for now but next winter out of curiosity I'm going to check compression. I bought the truck with 82K on it and I've just hit 200K and these miles have been very hard miles. I have tried to take all precautions to make it last with the best oil and by pass filters etc. so I'm pretty sure its still OK.

your are welcome Glenn, and Im pretty sure your truck is still OK with your great TLC (or is TCL? IDK you tell me please)
