on my 1990 f-250 4x4 with a 351w . i am taking the smog stuff off of it . on the passenger side exhaust manifold is where the EGR goes into it. do i remove the EGR and plug it OR leave it hooked up so the computer can read it ?
I highly doubt you would see a major improvement in anything by removing the EGR. Unless it was really screwed up/broken, leave it be.
All it does is allow some spent gas fumes back into the motor to reburn. Not exactly a performance improvement device, but doubt you'll see any seat-o-pants difference.
The sensors will need to be there to male the computer happy. Supposedly removing the EGR will hurt Mpgs. I replaced and kept the EGR when I did my headers.
The EGR reduces NOx emissions by lowering combustion temperatures. The EGR valve only opens while at steady cruise (the highway), so you will see no gains from removing it. By displacing fuel and oxygen it also improves fuel economy.
