Just since it satarted to get colder here. My truck has started doing some wird stuff. When driving the truck in OD, I'll start to lugg it at around 1,000-1,400 rmp the truck will start to stutter bad, takeing my foot off the gas lets it downshift and problem goes away,if i give it a little gas it stops shuttering, if i give it a lot it shutters worse. Around 75-80 mph accelerating does it to. I can cruise in drive, its fine unless i realy push it. From a dead start i can hammer it through 1,2,3, into overdrive, it pulls hard until the 3-od shift then it starts shuttering. My friends tell me its the motor missing but evertime it shutters the rpms go up, I can watch then on the tac, so im positive that its not the motor. I dumped 2 bottles of lucas trany fluid stabilizer in it last night. want to see if it helps. Whats the going rate for a trany rebuild? Im going to have it looked at this week so i want some other numbers to throw around. If its to expensive im gona try and put a 5 speed in it. One other thing it does slightly miss at idle in gear but not in park or neutral. Nothing big just a slight shake.

You think after three trucks id learn my lesson with the automatcs. slushbox sticks

Sometimes a bad throttle position sensor can cause problems with the torque converter clutch locking and unlocking. The computer uses throttle position (with other parameters) to determine when to lock/unlock the converter.

try a new oxy sensor or check the wiring harness... similar problems for me and this fixed it... I thought for sure it was the tranny though.

sounds like U joints for the shuttering problem, and I had the same problem with mine missing when I put it in gear. So I did a tuneup and it worked for me, so good luck.

My buddies 94 F150 w/5.8 & eod did the same exact thing. They took it apart and found metal. They rebuilt the OD. 1 week later the torque coverter went out in ugly fashion. Make sure to have it checked out while the trany os appart anyway. He was told it was from all the miles he put on it towing in OD. He replaced it and now disables OD when towing despite what the manual recommends.

Last time I looked at the manual it tells you to dissengage OD when towing.

Nope. Under "Driving while you tow" my owners manual states "If your vehicle is equipped with an Electronic 4-speed Automatic (E4OD or 4R70W) transmission, operate in Overdrive. When descending a steep grade with a trailer, operate in drive rather than Overdrive. If additional braking is needed, shift the automatic transmission gearshift into second gear or low."

This is directly from a 95 Bronco Owners manual.

curious, just looked over my manual for the van, It says to tow in OD, which anybody in the tranny buisness will tell you is a hazard to the transmission.

He wrote to Ford and stated that the tranny expert (Ford certified mechanic) told him he should not have been towing in OD. He then stated he felt his tranny went bad due to Ford's error in the manual. Ford responded by saying it is a only a recommendation and anytime you tow you can expect more wear and tear.
He now drives a Chevy.
