The wiper arms come off after you unlock them. Look closely at the mounting point, you'll see a small tab, pull it out(using a small screwdriver to pry it outward) and then the arm will slide off the post easily.
Not sure how bad a small Ranger is, but the full size truck you have to remove the lower window molding(to get to the upper cowl screws) AND the cowl panel to get to the wiper motor. Just did mine last fall when it quit one rainy day. I was able to get the cowl off, but it is a real bear! Real chinese puzzle to get it out around the hood. Removing the hood would ease the pain, if you have some help(I didn't).
The rest is simple unbolt/bolt together and reassemble everything. No fancy tools needed, just patience.
On a ranger the cowl does not remove. I know the early ranger ( 83-89) you would unbolt the wiper motor and you could pull some of the wiper transmission out. The transmission Just snaps on to the wiper motor. Just reverse the process and your done.
