1995 exporer fix

My 95 xlt was making all kinds of funky front end sounds and decided to geta estimate for a fix, right wheel bering R&L control arms needs rotors in the front, exhaust from the cat back new water hoses and a tune up.Long story short the estimate was about 2800.oo.Well found a 08 edge on the lot and grabbed it for the wife. The lack of maint.on the explorer was due to a spinal fusion i had done a year ago, could barely wipe my own butt and sure could not get under the truck. For some reason i cant let go of this truck 214k on it,my only question how hard is it for a person of limited strenth to change ths control arms and berring myself?Had it since new and always done maint.oil throughout its lifetime,is it worth my time with such high miles on it?Still looks respectful and everythig else works well.Just looking for opinions from others with a explorer with high miles.I have a 125pound german shep. who dosent want to let it go either. Thanks

You can do most of it by yourself. Take it one item at a time. Only issue will be the hubs. Torqueing the spindle nut on will be pretty hard. A neigbor could help or a cheater bar on the end of the torque wrench

At 214k it is barely broken in, I have a 97 with >360k, going strong, lots of 4x4 and still pulling 16' flatbed trailer......(other peoples wheels).. Philip

95 Explorer

The quote was from a dealership, wanted the truck fixed correctly for its my wifes daily user.At the time i was laid up and needed it repaired asap.I have a 03 F-250 (mine)get it.Feeling somewhat better i figured i could do the repair myself.Im not stupid and realize the dealer was beating me up and brought her back home.I can definatly hear the r berring and the front end is sloppy. If i could do the front end work etc.a get a valid P.A. inspection sticker would be great. Was just feeling out some of you all as far as the miles on it.It has the original motor and trans and starts up every day.Firured i would use the dealer to find out its needs and take it from there. My main concern is the control arms, found a web site fordparts directtoyou.com and have a rough idea on cost. You all are loaded with info, and was looking for some support...good lookin out guys!

We had a 92 with 480K before the son trashed it, only major issue was the A4LD, went through 3 of them....

Son now buys his own, he has a 94 330k for muding and a 95 (240k) as a DD, both with 5 speed manual......

All with the X engine, which is bullet proof........ Philip

I truly believe the 4.0 OHV "X" engine is better and will run longer than the old 300 inline 6; I know you could abuse the old 300 more but all in all I believe it is one of the best 6 cylinders ever built. Am I going to far out on a limb?
