I just bought a 2011 F-150 Supercrew 4x4. I love it so far. My truck did not come with the tow package. I have Installed a curt hitch from etrailer.com easy to install. There is 4pin connector in place for lights that was on the truck from the factory.
My issue my truck did not come with the aux trans cooler that is usually mounted on front of the radiator. Forgive my ignorance the main radiator does cool the transmission as well correct? There should be two lines going to the main radiator. I will be towing a 19ft boat single axle trailer total weight maybe 3900 lbs. Will the radiator be fine for cooling the transmission or should I add a aftermarket transcooler? I was looking at Tru-Cool LPD thin, Stacked Plate cooler kit # LPD4490 Cars, trucks & heavy towing, GVW rating 22,000 lbs.
Low pressure drop cooler
12 x 11 x 3/4. I know this transcooler is built to where when it is cold out the trans fluid will no go through the rad so the fluid warms up in colder temps.
I have a 19 foot boat and towed it fine with older f150s in 97, 02 and 06 and they were fine just by adding a hitch. Unless you are going long distances thru mountainous territory you sb fine. How far is your favorite lake/river?
