John, isn't that the same type of problem reported by a user to one of the other mods? IIRC, it was strictly IE related, as Chrome and Firefox continued to work ok.

Stewart

EDIT: I found the thread bro. You have a PM

You're signed out and whatever system you're using is not prompting you to sign in.....This happens to me at work a lot on encrypted systems when I try to go to a 'member' page (like forums) and that computer is not signed in......I'll get the main page OK, but when I try to go anywhere else, the address line gives about 50 characters of gobblygook and only the top part of the website page shows up.

There's a back way to sign in, but can't describe it right now. John, any ideas on that?

I'm not a computer guy, so I can't explain it any better than that.....Sorry.

Not sure Steve. That's another reason I keep my User CP and Profile page as bookmarks. Even if I'm logged off and click on the bookmark for my CP, it asks me to log in and asks for my username and password. I log in and all is good.

I just tried getting on FTE with IE and had no problems. I went on the main page, the forums index page, and logged in with no problems.

PS 72, my issue is with accessing page 2 on the list of threads, not page 2 within a thread. It only happens on the SD section. I can access from my parents computer that I am on now, but not my own at my home. They have IE8, I have IE9 at home if that makes any difference.

John,

Guys in another forum (80-86, maybe 73-79, I forget) were seeing behavior like this some time ago; talk to Robb & Jeremy (and CC Tim), send them a link to this thread and ask them to look into it on their side.

Robb got this fixed for me last time I encountered this.

Okay I'm following you now. I know there have been a few reported glitches in IE9 and how it performs on these forums. However, it is strange that it only happens with the SD forum. Have you tried using Firefox? I've had much better success with it than IE.

EDIT:I just logged back in using IE9 and had no problem accessing all pages of threads within the SD forum.

Chris, I'm having no issues using Goggle Chrome. I got so fed up with IE8s overbearing net nanny tactics I quit using it. I am also having no issues with Safari on my Macbook Pro. BTW, based on Matt's recommendations I am using Microsoft Security Essentials, rather than paying Symantec or anyone else.

If you were in fact infected by this thing (Blackhole Toolkit Website) I strongly urge you to go change ALL your passwords.

I haven't been able to verify this information from a credible source but, according to what I found on the 'net (and which claims to have originated at Symantec), one of the things this virus will do is upload all of your user/pass combinations & browsing history to The Death Star (the bad guys).

Washincars,

I suspect some sort of errant redirect thing happening that affects only certain browsers related to an ad on Page 2.

Can you please answer the following questions:

What is the exact problem? Please be as descriptive as possible.

What is the exact URL where you experience (or first notice) the problem?

What are the steps necessary to replicate it?

What browser are you using? What version number? On what platform (e.g. Windows XP, Mac OSX, Debian Linux, iPhone, whatever)?

What anti-virus/anti-malware software are you using (if any)?

Any browser add-ons (e.g. Flashblock/CookieMonster/etc.) and their version numbers?

What type/speed of Internet connection (e.g. dialup, DSL, cable, satellite)?

Where in the world are you physically located?

John - When we know more (the questions have answers) send this to Robb/Jeremy/Tim, too.

Thanks Chris.

I'm going to go ahead and shoot them a PM and make them aware of it, direct them to this thread, and then they can monitor it for updates and answers to the questions you've asked.

I cheat also. I run Linux, have been for years, never had an attack, never had Norton etc. Oh, and it's all FREE!!

This can be the result of a poorly-implemented iframe attack, which is/was the case here off & on these past several weeks, most recently with this blackhole toolkit thing...

Same here.

Well, mostly......

I had an Ubuntu laptop fall victim to a hole in an Adobe browser plugin, this was about 2-3 years ago.

I had my Yahoo! mail (a beta version at that) open in a Firefox tab and was surfing eBay in another.

I don't remember detecting anything odd or weird or broken on eBay, but I went to my mail after having spent some time there and found I had a crapload of 'bounce' messages in my Inbox as well as a handful from friends in my Address Book telling me I had a virus. Seems I was promoting blue, make-me-hard pills available at Canadian pharmacies.

A series of updates from Adobe were released a short time later.

Anyhow, point being, even though Linux & Macs are WORLDS safer than any 'doze machine on the Internet, they're not infallible (nor are smartphones).

Free antivirus straight from Microsoft. They finally came out with an antivirus to try and protect their vulnerable software. Over the years I've had McAfee, Norton, AVG (free) and a couple others. Now all I use is the Security Essentials regardless if a new computer comes with free antivirus. I uninstall the antivirus the PC came with and install the security essentials. Picks up stuff that the others couldn't.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials
