The Norton Intrusion Prevention System uses signatures to detect and block exploits that leverage vulnerabilities in software programs to install malware. When a new exploit is discovered a signature is created and distributed as quickly as possible in order to provide immediate protection. After this initial signature is released refinements are made to perfect a new signature that is smaller and more efficient. Because there is an increased likelihood of false positives, the revised definition is first released as a test signature. When one of these test signatures is triggered it is reported back to Symantec as an IPS Detection Statistical Submission. These submissions help Symantec fine-tune the accuracy of the detections. Once testing is completed, the initial signature will be replaced or updated with the improved version. While testing is in progress you are protected from the actual exploit by the originally released signature, which will trigger IPS to block, log, and alert you to any real attack. A statistical submission alone without a corresponding IPS action would indicate a false positive.
When the page loads on this forum it is automatically going to the bottom of the page. Is that happening to anybody else? Is it a setting? I am using my IPad.
This happened a couple weeks ago as well. Apparently someone is attacking the sites that supply ads to FTE and others and getting them to supply Malware instead. I'm somewhat assuming this because the URL's that are being blocked appear to be web advertising sites.
It's a good thing that virus software is picking these up and blocking them. Eventually, though, someone will get out a new enough piece of Malware that the various virii software won't have signatures for and people will get hammered.
Seems to me a good solution for FTE would be to kill the ads for awhile until the ad companies get their act together.
I've combined the two threads on this topic into one.
Okay folks here's what we know at this point. As David said, this occurred a few weeks ago as well. There appears to be some type of hacking going on from overseas and said hacker is causing problems for us. We're trying to get the FTE IT folks in to look at things.
Best advice right now is to make sure all of your Antivirus definitions are up to date, just to be on the safe side.
I don't want to sound like a broken record but I've been on here most of the morning since a little after 4am and I've yet to experience any kind of a problem with this site.
