Stupid hackers. What do they get out of doing stuff like this besides a laugh? Does someone actually pay them to do these things or something?
I have heard before that anti virus companies will have people put out viruses just so people have the "need" for anti virus software. True or not I can believe it.
I don't want to sound like a broken record but I've been on here most of the morning since a little after 4am and I've yet to experience any kind of a problem with this site.
You said you were using webroot secure. I see two possible reasons why you're not seeing any warnings.
1) Webroot secure is blocking the Malware and isn't notifying you.
2) Webroot secure isn't recognizing the Malware and you're infected. Most Malware doesn't make it's presence known to the user.
Based on the possibility of #2 above, I would grab ANY of the free anti-virus/anti-malware programs and do some scanning on your machine. Spybot S&D is free and does a pretty good job. Malware Bytes is one of the best, IMO, and you can download a free trial, find out if you're infected, clean it up and then uninstall it.
Avast and AVG anti-virus/malware are both free and very good. I happen to prefer Avast over AVG. But that's because AVG let one by on me once. Although it was probably just a fluke.
Unfortunately most hacking is done offshore where we have no jurisdiction for prosecution. We have on occasion had domestic hacking that have been dealt with accordingly, but we still have an ever growing world of very smart kids with too much time on their hands and do it for kicks.
When the page loads on this forum it is automatically going to the bottom of the page. Is that happening to anybody else? Is it a setting? I am using my IPad.
I'm getting that too using firefox on my laptop. It stopped for a while, but started back up today again. Really annoying!
No virus problems here, but then again I cheat...Mac's rule! LOL Seriously though, I did run a full scan on my only PC (use it for my Ham radio stuff,) just to be safe. Only problem I am having is with Safari dropping to be bottom of the page when I load a page.
Did a full system scan and Malwarebytes full system scan and nothing found. 1st line of defense must be working. 2nd line of defense will be checking back tomorrow to see if that warning stops popping up.
My Microsoft Security Essentials software blocked it. The SE is better than any other antivirus Ive used and its free. Norton is a joke compared to it.(had Norton for years) Never paying for antivirus again.
Man I just spent 3 hours with tech support. I was reading a post on here and lost everything. The virus deleted my whole hard drive. Now I know where I got the Virus. Luckely most was recovered. I have McAfree and it didn't catch it until it was to late.
Now for a little non Ford advertising. I have tech support thru PC PROTECTION CTRL CENTER, a program from Office Max. It is a 1 year of pc protection. I have used it now twice in the last year. The first time paid for the program, so it has deffently paid for itself now.
This just Pisses me off when hackers go after the little guy, when they could go after big brother.
So......I heard a couple of 'Norton' minions already....What do y'all use? Any recommendations?
I'm certainly no expert. Got a brand new Toshiba laptop from Best Buy a coupla weeks ago and got 6 free months of anti-virus protection. The girl who rung me up was one of the house 'geeks' from the Geek Squad....didn't ask my opinion, just grabbed a CD and said she'll give me the one SHE likes. It's Kaspersky. I know not to get between a geek and their tech advice, so I just rolled with it......
Seems to work OK (through my inexpert eye). About every 2 days, I'll get a 'databases out of date' message from Kaspersky and download their latest. Anyone use it? If not, what's YOUR fave?
I'm currently using the free version of Avast. It caught all the attempts that were happening earlier today. With me, I was getting an alert almost every time I opened a new page.
I like that it seems to work well. I definitely like free. They update virus signatures about twice a day. And it doesn't seem to use a lot of memory or processor time, which is also a plus for me.
It's been about 10 years since I worked professionally in computers, and back then you would never use the words "Microsoft" and "Security" in the same sentence. But I have heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials lately. I've never even looked at it so I know nothing about it. But I would expect a Microsoft product to integrate better with their operating systems.
