I "try" and start it as soon as the glow plug light goes off. I rean it dead the other night trying to start the dang thing.
I wondered myself how it could be a glow plug prob, since it won't even start when it's 100 outside.
An hour or so of plugging in usually works. Although I don't think I have tried it until atleast that time.
140k miles, maybe 200 on the oil.
Rotella oil.
I'm outside of Lubbock TX, there is strokers plus to take it to, the problem is having someone to drive me there, and getting back home.
Have you checked the battery volts while cranking? If you don't get around 10.5 volts while cranking, the IDM will not tell the PCM to fire the injectors.
Does it start good after the first start of the day?
Hmm, not sure, it's just been sitting in the yard for months because it has had this problem since we got it. Hubby was for sure that somenoe had sugared the gas tank. It's along story, but we bought it out of Florida and something very sketchy was going on with that dealership. Because we couldn't find a company to bring it to us in a timely manner, we kept offering to come get it, and every time we would get lies or excuses as to why we can't come get it and the transport place was coming soon. After 2 months of that hubby got ticked and said, just give him his money back and keep the thing OR let us come get it. They suddenly shipped it to us 2 days later, after many words. It gets here and it has all these problems. Sigh.
Read the sticky thread at the top of the 7.3 diesel forum for cold weather problems. You can read on and on for days on this and it will explain everything there is known to man about the cold weather starting system. It is a very simple system to understand and troubleshoot once you get the fundamentals. The next time you go to cold start it, have someone look at the exhaust once it starts looking for any smoke and what color the smoke is if any. It also sounds like it could be losing fuel prime after it sits which could be a bad check valve. I'm not 100% sure though if these have a check valve in the fuel system.
