You can use a Taurus, but you'll have to remove a cylinder head for access to replace the passenger side motor mount. The front covers may differ also, with the position sensor moved from one side of the engine to the other.
You may find the cost of the front cover and cylinder head gasket and bolts will not make it an economical substitution.

Does it mean I could drop a 2005 escape motor into a 2001 escape? Are there any changes in engine mounts, etc.? My 01 motor went south and need to replace it and this 05 motor is relatively cheap.
