odd vibration situation...
under full throttle acceleration. i get a pretty strong vibration.
i flushed 30 quarts of trans fluid through trans. and added 2 bottles of shudder gaurd.
no noticable difference. took it to an ammco trans shop. he suggested it COULD be torque converter. or it could be driveshaft vibration. (i lined up u-joints correctly) it is a 2 pieces driveshaft assembly. i also have an exhaust leak at drivers manifold. i am installing flowtech headers next tuesday and true dual exhuast. along with a FULL msd ignition system with a 6a spark controller.
tires are freshly balanced. new wheel bearings and front rotors.
i feel the vibration in park just revving it up past 3k. i am leaning towards a possible bad harmonic balancer as being the cause... i have gone through 3 tensioners and 2 belts in the past year.
does the balancer seem like a likely cause? has anyone else had this issue? i DO have a crossfire condition currently. part of the reason i am upgrading the ignition.
any help would be appreciated.
Becuase you get the vibration in "Park", and, as you said, the truck eats belts, I'd say there's a pretty good chance the balancer or a pulley is no good. It's pretty easy to check visually.
My "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" method is to hold something on the edge of the pulley and see if it vibrates. This is extremely dangerous though.
302 v8.
new water pump.
new p/s pump and pulley.
new fan clutch.
3rd tensioner (this one is from advance, seems better than autozone or napa)
new idler pulley
i have work to do on the wifey's sport trac today. but if i have time, i will pull serp belt off of mine, and run it to see if i still have vibration. that would eliminate all accessory pulleys and devices. and narrow it to exhaust, harmonic balancer, or *GULP* internal engine issue.
