I personally don't like the Painted Bumpers on the FX4 I like my chrome To a degree. And Ya the 20's were a bit much on the other model i was looking at but I would consider them for a "Summers" pack when i get winters one day Mounting the winters to my 17's But I am quite happy with the 17's for daily use so I'm not going to be doing any changes for a while
I think Ford stuck with the painted bumpers on the FX4 due to the black-out approach with the grille, headlights, and taillights. I don't think the chrome would've looked right on that setup.
I like the 20" rims on the new FX4 a lot, but tire choice seems limited if you want to dump the stock Pirellis (which I do).
I guess Im one of the few who prefers the painted bumpers and black grille of the FX4 and STX. Its ok, but I dont prefer all that chrome. It reminds me of a 16 years old decorating his truck from Auto Zone.
As for the rims, I really like the new FX4 apperance package you can get with the black 20" rims, but as mentioned above you get stuck with those horrible Perilli tires with the Ford 20"s. And tires for a 20" rim is EXPENSIVE. Thats one of the reasons I went with the 18".
Actually, I'm with you Soundwave. LOVE the FX4 package overall. It's why I chose it over the Lariat or Platinum package. Not a fan of chrome on my trucks anymore (no offense to anyone else on here, I think all these trucks are gorgeous).
The Pirelli's SUCK! I scraped a curb near my house as I pulled away from a parking spot and ripped the sidewall open in the fall. I debated getting all new tires instead of just one Pirelli, but it was too much $$$. Thankfully these supposedly only last for 20K miles, so I can justify it then.
They had them the first year of the current body style, in 2009. They also had the two-tone grey paint on the '09s, which I wanted.
I ran into a guy at the gas station with an '11 that was white with silver lower two-tone. I commented how nice it looked and wished I could have got one in two tone. Guy said he actually had a lettering company make the painted area in vinyl for about $250 installed. I could not tell the difference honestly. At least you can remove it if you don't like it or get sick of it down the road.
