Like other posters have said, check your FICM voltages.
I love my Edge Insight CTS over my ScanGauge, but either will let you check FICM voltages and read codes, too. Of course, so will a digital volt meter...
Directions for reading the voltages are on our web site in the FAQ section.
One important thing to remember when checking your FICM, is to check it on a Cold Start. Once things have warmed up, often times the voltages will read normal. Before I got my SGII, I used a voltmeter on the FICM screws, voltages looked good, however this was right after I drove home from work, soon after, I received my SGII and noticed that the voltages were dropping to 30v, but ONLY during a cold start. Once the engine/fluids were nice and warm, things were good.
but i would rather spend a little more for the edge insight cts,
The CTS does somethings the SCII doesn't, and vice versa. For diagnostics, the SCII wins- you can program in more PIDS (EPB, IPR%, ICP, etc) that the CTS can't view but are very important to troubleshooting certain conditions. The CTS will read codes and can pull a few details out of the truck that the SCII can't.
I have the CTS and it's great for day-today things that you should watch all the time (ect/eot split, EGT, tft, V and FICM V), but I'm probably going to order an SCII here pretty soon to start checking on other things that the Edge just can't.
something just crossed my mind, the missing problem i am having at cold starts was doing it before i got the head work done, got it back and ran perfect every cold start for almost 1000 miles then started it again, would that make sense for it to be the ficm ??
i was just getting ready to post updates..
sgII not in yet...
i am know getting constant miss even after warmed up, so i took it to mechanic last night to have him check ficm, he went to drive it and said wow this things missing bad, w truck warm, it was as 48.5 dropped to 47.5 cranking.he ran codes came up w P0237, P0272, P0403,P0480, P0528....
did injector diag, #4 was changing as low as -48 while the others remained at 0
he had me leave it so he could check it this am when cold. went over this am he hooked it up, ficm - lowest it was was47.5 cranking and stayed at abt 48.. so looks like ficm may b okay..
injector diag showed #4 #6 #7 all dropping to negative numbers jumping all over the place, he suggested we use the bg clean system, one qt treats fuel, 2nd treatment goes directly in the oil, stuff was like alcohol, let set idle for 1.5 hrs, drained and purged system, new oil filter and royal purple 15w40 and 1 qt of bg DOC, diesel oil conditioner......went and drove truck was still missing a little..
he had reset the codes earlier but the codes came back showing #4 injector, told me to drive it for awhile to work in the fuel treatment, upon driving it will clear up and run great then start the miss agn under acceleration, then clear up agn....
thats where i am to this point...
