What's the advantage of the regulated return over the fuel rail crossover? I'm considering the crossover since it's cheaper & appears to accomplish much of the same.

I think the biggest advantage is on a regulated return is for those who live in a cold climate. It allows all the fuel returning to the tank to pass through the warm engine block and help keep the fuel from having any gelling issues.

A crossover has most of the excess fuel just pass return through the fuel bowl. Many here have said they never had a gelling issue after the regulated return. I've never had one either, but I live in Texas and if it gets that cold, we just stay home.

How would that differ from warm fuel from the heating element in the fuel bowl returning to the tank?

Heating element in the bowl is just barely enough to heat the bowl itself without any fuel flowing through it. Once the fuel is moving, it doesn't put out enough heat to make a difference.

It was designed to help thaw the filter in case it got clogged up with fuel starting to gel. It wasn't meant to warm 30 gallons or so.

I went with a billet aluminum spin on filter base from FST Performance. They provide fuel supply parts to the Marine Off-Shore Racing industry. Here's a link to the filter base I used from them: Link Absolutely no leaks whatsoever from this filter base!

Other than that, the kit was great given the quality of fuel supply hoses and other parts included.

I have no experience fabbing up my own complete system, but it was pretty easy to install, especially since I already had Strictly Diesel's Regulated Return System on my truck.

I did a RR w FB delete on mine recently and am very happy with the end result. I have been in northern NH and ME for the last week or so in sub zero weather. The truck started better than it did this time last year.

As Drake stated, everything in the Strictly Diesel kit is top notch with the exception of the fuel filter base. I can not get it to stop leaking even using their recommended sealant, Rectorseal5. The base is junk. I might replace it with the base that Drake has suggested. THX.

Drake did you mount it in same place. If not, where?

Since you will be eliminating the filter with the fuel bowl delete this is a decision you will have to make as well so you may want to ask the members about manufacturers of a good base and filter combo and where to mount it.

I tried to build it for less than what SD is selling it for and found that I could maybe save $40 by piecing it together myself.

Since you already have part of the equation already, it might be worth it for you.

I have my old bowl but none of the lines. Can I literally just replace the regulator with the old bowl or do I need to do it all?
