I have a 98 Ranger 4x4, 3.0L engine. It will not go into 4 wheel drive. After the vehicle starts, the 4HI and 4LO lights flash about 4 times. There is power at the switch, I've put a new motor on at the transfer case but I am still getting no power at the motor. I've checked all the fuses and they are good as well. Can any of you tell me if you have had this problem, or what you think it may be?
On my old 88 Ranger I had a similar problem and it turned out to be corroded wire in the harness going to motor at the transfer case. I hope this helps as it was by pure chance I found it. Man I really miss that old girl. 219,000 miles when I got rid of it.

If it has the harness with the big square plug that goes through the floor, check that plug for corrosion.
