Ranger transfer case??
I'm trying to trade my 93 F-250 4x4 and a guy has a 2000 four door ranger 4x4 with the 4.0. He said the transfer case is messed up and will not operate the 4 wheel drive but rides in two wheel drive fine. Isnt the internals of the transfer case working even in two wheel drive or is it even possible for it to last?

I'm not saying it's not the t-case, however the most common problem with the 98-2000 ranger 4x4's is the pulse vacume hubs. They get a vacume leak somewhere in the system and the hubs won't engage. The simple fix for this is a set of AVM manual hubs from Tellico off road. They can be had for a round 100.00$.
