302 engine swap

ok i have a 1977 ford f150 4x4 with a 300 six and a 4 speed manual. I have a 302 sitting on a engine stand and would like to do the swap. Now I think this 302 will match up to the 4speed. I also think i need new engine mounts. I am wondering what parts i will need and don't need. Any help would be great. Also wanting to do a set of headers.

you're going to need 302 motor towers (perches), 302 motor mounts, and the 302 flywheel. You may want to step up to a 351m/400 radiator. Don't quote me on this one, but I *think* you can use 351m/400 motor perches.

i think i already have a oversized radiator in my truck. how can i tell? Any one know of a good head, carb, and headers that will work with a 4x4? Its going to be a daily driver but also pulling a 2place snowmchine trailer.

If you go with shorties, you're basically just replacing the exhaust manifolds. You can run stock pipes if you want with shorties. Long tubes flow a lot better but changing the starter can be a hassle and a half. I've heard a lot more good about long tubes than shorties, but I'm not much of a 302 guy to know which header better suits your application. As for heads, just port and polish the ones you have now.

Saw an article a while back where they just ported and polished the 302 heads, new pistons, higher ratio rockers, headers, a 4 barrel carb, and they never touched the stock cam. They got somewhere around 450hp out of it.

On the radiator. Pull the cap and count the rows front to rear. For my 460 3 rows was standard, 4 rows is "oversized" as you put it.

Edit: Here is a pic , borrowed from tude , showing the height difference between small block and big block radiators. Thanks tude!
