Looking to do a full tune up on a 96 fsb 5.0 V-8 past the plain jane wires, plugs, cap, rotor have seen and heard of other small diy projects (upgrades ideas) perhaps we could list and discuss some of them here for example i jave read about an explorer injector swap? Im unfamiliar with this but myself and im sure others would apprieciate any advice from previous guys/gals (if any) who have tried and tested this stuff
Oddly enougg gruesome i agree however after searching that it directed me to a very detailed tuneup article from a guy named sixlitre! Opening up the gap on spark plugs with a highoutput coil and advancing your timing a bit to burn more fuel more efficiently....after rear brakes tthis will be a morning project replaced fuel filter PO was kind enough to leave a new one inside the vehicle ;-)
There are lots of little things. You could rear through some of our build threads and get some ideas. I have read through and done lots of the DIY simple upgrades and projects.
I did the injector swap.. it isn't just explorers, a LOT of vehicles, non-Ford's, etc use the same injectors. They're Bosch Gen 3, you can find them on eBay all day long for $100. Mine personally came out of an expedition, but everything from Range Rovers to Beamers use them and people call them upgrades, it's very popular for any early fuel injected vehicle to swap to Gen3s.
Don't know if I recommend the swap. After I wipe computer memory it takes a few days before I stop throwing a lean code, even replaced the injectors once thinking they were messed up. Didn't really notice a difference using the new injectors.
BUT, my motor has 220k on it and my old injectors had *just* been rebuilt, so keep that in mind. If you're needing new injectors anyways, there's no reason to not pick up the Gen3s. At the very least they don't clog as easily as Gen1s
And is this question this just for performance? I just made another order with superbrightleds for gauge cluster bulbs. Swapping some of their LEDs in my gauge cluster was one heck of a nice upgrade for me, worth every penny!
Also not personally a fan of the 6litretunup.. gapping your plugs further, bumping your timing to within Ford's margin of error (+/- 2 degrees) and throwing on a random red painted Chinese coil is suppose to make your engine run better? I'd argue more but too many people notice a difference. From all of the reading I've done, these 'high powered coils' really don't put out much stronger of a spark than a stock Ford coil and I sorta get the logic behind the plug gap, but it just makes your coil work harder.
I guess it's to get the rated 1trillion billion volts you get advertised with an MSD coil?
My MSD is sitting in a box rusting away, I put my stock Ford coil back on.
I have a theory for why people are seeing improvements. Worn timing chains, the timing bump helps offset crank to cam retardation. People assume double rollers don't stretch or ever need changed, that's wrong. Mine had more than 10 degrees of slack, replacement gave me the best performance boost I've got out of everything I have done, by far.
Then you also deal with pushrod, cam and rocker arm wear reducing valve lift, something else the timing bump might help offset. They're bandaids though, any motor with 100k will benefit from changing of those parts far more than an artificial timing bump.
Very cool errors yeah i have read througg a bunch of threads my hope was that i could start a thread were if someone new came and searched "upgrades" they could find it all in one place as opposed to 990 pages... do you have a part number for those led bulbs? Probably the same ones i used in my semi truck except i used a red led man it glows. My bronco is goingblack on blackwith hulk green accents ie lighting and some trim
Sorry! Yeah all simple upgrades whether it be performance, suspension, lighting, interior, such as using the front leaf hanger from f250 to replace worn out rear leaf hanger on broncos to give some lift. If somthing is in need of replacing may as well make it better not just replace the same stuff....UPGRADES OF ALL VARIATIES
http://oldfuelinjection.com/?p=75 here is a simple upgrade after searching most the day a 3g altenator swap made easy.. would like links to detailed projects/upgrades make it easy looking for electric fan detailed installs.....customized dashes interior storage anything fellas we own fords i know we are handy.
That speaker thing kinda caught me by surprise... Though it has valuable info i thought it was something different to maximize stock speakers or something. I figure i will be replacing mine a long time down the road when i decide to install a radio. So far i have to very small ones next to the back seat and i am pretty sure the stock on is in the dash i but haven't pulled it apart to check.
If you have a 92+ I believe you already have a 3G. You can do a bolt-on upgrade for the Powerstroke alternator which is 130 amp instead of the stock Bronco's 95 amp.
Edgethis thanks for thr info i had already identified my alt as a 3g thanks to alot of searching i will probably upgrade to a higher output alt plan on all new led lighting int/ext off road lights stereo and a big winch i like overkill...:-)
