i am in a bit of a bind. i have a 1978 f150 4x4 with a 400 and a c6 in it. It is my wife's pickup. mine is a 78 f250 4x4 with a 400 and a 4 speed. her trans is bad and going to go here soon, but all i can find around here close is a c6 from a 390. will that fit her 400? and if not then what motors have the same bell housing as hers? and what are my options? As always i'm on a tight budget here. thus the reason for not going and buying a new one or getting this one rebuilt. also hers has a tail shaft length of about 4-5 inches and all of the ones i have seen so far are about 8 inches or so. how does that work, as her trans and transfer case are married? Thanks for your help guys.
ya the trans you need needs to be married to a transfer case. you can swap the guts out of hers to the regular one but it has to all come apart to do it and might as well rebuild it at that point.
My father in law just gave me one with 70K original miles on it for free. BUT that never happens. It really depends on your area. I'd say as a guess, anywhere from $300-$600. Even though it has low miles on it, the person buying it will most likely rebuild it anyway. (that's what I'm doing)
