Since the DP changes computer I/O, does this effect the accuracy of the fuel rate and MPG of the ScanGauge II?

If this is OT, or if this has been gone over before, sorry (couldn't find anything). Moderator - Feel Free to Delete.

Hey Greg, That is a pertinent question to the topic. I had my Scangauge and tuners on my 7.3L and 6.0L and now on my 6.8L. I never have used the MPG feature as I don't feel like going to all the trouble to calibrate it to be precise enough to trust it. But... I would imagine that if you really wanted to you could calibrate it. Or.. just use a calculator when filling it. Hope that helps.

Yeah, the calculator works just fine, but I would like to be able to adjust my driving style to get better mileage and see when I need to do that (when I drive my wifes car, I drop the mileage by 3 or 4 mpg, but when she drives it, she gets much better mileage). I was just hoping to see where I get the best mileage.

Sorry to the OP for the Hijack.

But, you are able to calibrate the ScanGauge II to display correct mileage and fuel usage? I figured it just displayed what the computer was calling for?

It is very programmable. You can tell it what "port" to look and then tell it how to translate the data it receives. If you tell it to translate it wrong then you receive wrong data.

yeah you can program it to read correctly by adjusting tire sizes and etc. on mine, I'm all stock, so it was accurate out of the box, but my factory mpg gauge is dead on accurate as well.

I may not be using it to its full potential, but I wish I would have bought a ScanGauge instead of the Ultra Gauge. I'm just not that impressed and only keeping it to keep track of my maintenance and basic things like speed and engine temp. It's not much use for me beyond that.

I think I also got one of the Classics so there may be more to it than what I have. I've had mine for almost 2 years now.

Lovin' it! I haven't really done much with it yet...the screens right out of the box have been working OK for me. I will eventually do the calibration - the mpg is about 1 mpg off based on paper calculations and compared to my console computer (I think I may be the only one with an accurate MPG on my console computer!).

This summer will be a good test...the interior heat, etc. I doubt it will have any issues (especially after I get it off of the windshield mount and over near the GPS - in the shade). I'll probably build a new screen as well for towing (temps, maybe hp/torque numbers).

I know a lot of folks swear by the ScanGauge (I used to have one on my Expedition)...but now that I've had both, I like the UltraGauge more.

I say that with a big caveat about the trans temp. On both my Expedition and now the Excursion, I ran a separate trans temp gauge. If you are against a separate trans temp gauge (don't like the look of additional gauges, etc.), then spending more on the ScanGauge to get that functionality might make sense for you. If you are OK with adding gauges, then I'd say go with the UltraGauge.

You can see 8 gauges on one screen (if you set it up properly) vs. 4 on the ScanGauge. Both read and clear trouble codes. Both have a similar set of 'common' gauges. The ScanGauge lets you add gauges via PID's, but honestly, I added 2 on my Expedition and rarely if ever actually used them. The only thing I don't like is that you can't change the screen color without cracking it open and putting in a different color LED (something I'm sure I'll do once the warranty runs out). It tracks mileage at three levels (manual reset, tank and 'current trip) - I don't think the ScanGauge did anything other than tank if memory serves, and I don't think it did any service reminders.

Just my $.02! To each their own!

Check into getting the e/m upgraded one...I read on the site to upgrade it's not like buying a complete new one. They've added a lot of stuff on the e/m version.

UltraGauge's website shows that the gauge doesn't work fully with the diesels for whatever reason. If you have a gasser, the ultragauge works great but if you have a diesel, the scangauge is the better choice.

That's true too...they have added some functionality for the diesel engines in the e/m model, but it still doesn't have as much as they added for gassers.

What about running both the Scangauge and the Ultragauge at the same time?

I am really leaning toward the bluetooth OBDII port adapter and either running that into a cheap Android 7" android tablet or just into one of my old Android phones. I am currently using an old Android phone for Pandora running through my wireless network. I just put it in Airplane Mode and then turn the wifi on. Works fantastic. I am sure that running Torque on it would work great also.

edit: Starting a new bluetooth thread....

I've heard some say the cable works on two of the same device provided you are displaying different data points on both, but honestly I think at some point you will get a data collision (both devices needing a data update at the same time).

Using it with multiple devices would complicate the issue, I think.
