Holy crap, thank you mchan for the info, I will rep you when I get home. Quick question though (i actually have lots of em), but I know I should remove the trans (manual trans) before the engine comes out, but is that the only way, I would like to take this one out without messing with dropping the trans. Would it be stupid to replace the lifters and leaving the cam? I think I know the answer though. I would like to apoligize and thank those that have helped and those that I have gotten grumpy with.
I have pulled my share of 6.4L and 6.0L engines on these trucks and I can tell you that the transmission can remain in the chassis, regardless if it's a manual or automatic..........
BRAINFART: You mention that you continue to hear the noise with the engine running and the belt removed, correct? Does the noise disappear when you the vehicle in gear and release the clutch? Does it the noise change or disappear whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged in neutral?
Me and my wife are headed south from detroit now, but I will get that info. Its kinda hard to hear with the hood down, so I will shut it down with the clutch depressed (i dont think I ever have done that), shut it down with it in gear and the clutch depressed, and if it still does it then I will have the wife put it in granny and shut it down while rolling (no seat belts under the hood tho lol). That would be awesome if it is just a clutch.
I can hear it while it is running, but it is way easier to hear during shutdown. Its freakin wierd tho, I have put over 4k miles on her since the noise started and it doesnt sound any different than when it started 4k miles ago.
Ford replaced my alternator idler pulley and the belt twice when mine was under warranty. The chirp\squeaky noise is back again. I was told by a Former Ford diesel tech to put on a goodyear gatorback belt and my problems will be solved. We will be installing it tomorrow morning. Part # 4081261.
Hopefully not, but do keep us informed. I can't believe it just went away on its own.
Will do, it definitely got my attention tho. I'm in minnesota now headed to washington state, and the father in law is on call with his trailer. Lets hope I dont have to make that call.
No belt and it still squeaks/chirps? It almost sounded like something on the outside is rubbing on the damper. Can you tell where the noise is coming from?
Here's another link to your vid. I had trouble with the original.
