I have a 2008 6.4. I recently took it in for the hyperextended thermostat, I thought and pcm up date. The dealer could not find a leak, put in the pcm update and charged for the pcm update. Is it normal to be charged for the update?
My truck doesn't get up to 190 degrees after 20 miles of driving. No winter front on it now. What is the temp needed to go into closed loop?
I would definitely demand my money back and let the dealer know they were crooked as a dogs hind leg and never get my business again.Did you not get the recall for the 11b23 flash last spring when Ford sent them out to all 6.4 owners?
As I recall in late 08/early 09 there was a voluntary flash to change the cleaning exhaust filter message.
Then this 11B23 recall.
I know there were a couple of other updates during those two but were never announced or required.
my truck is in the shop right now still dealing with the water in fuel issue and the truck's inability to clear the warning messge and "reduced power" mode. since the water sep sensor has been changed twice, i'm led to believe i have a program or pcm problem. since there is no way in hell i will pay for new pcm if they say it's the issue...do you know if the 11b23 can be reversed or taken out? thanks.
You can't reverse a pcm flash. you probably should contact ford cust care and see if they can get a different tech or the tech hotline involved in the trouble shooting steps.
i truly believe the service manger has worked hard to resolve this but you may be right and this may be too much for them. my next course of action will be to submit all service order sheets and my personal narrative of the problem to customer care. i have over a dozen service visits in the last 9 months.

Have you personally pulled both filters and looked them for containination and metal/rust?
What about the fuel bowl. Take that filter out and shine a light in there. How does that look?
a local garage did my oil and fuel filters at 80k. ford did them again 85k. the truck was into them twice between 85 and 90k so my assumption is that they are checking these things. maybe i shouldn't assume with these guys anymore. thanks for the insight.
I just got that update and changed fuel filters last weekend then on Wednesday my wife was driving it home and the check engine light came on and there was absolutely no power. She barely made it home shut the truck down and had it towed to the dealership friday. We should find out something this week and hope its nothing to big. I actually waited to get this update because the service manager told me this was happening a couple months ago and advised me to wait till they get the bugs worked out. It still happened but I don't know the cause yet.
If my memory is right, at my age that's never a sure thing, there were a number of trucks that had those problems following the 11b23 flash. In response to that, ford issued a second letter for all so impacted trucks to receive an update flash to correct the updated flash. That's probably why you were waiting and it should be a simple reflash.
