How do you get the dang thing off? I rebuilt the column on that 97 f250 auto last week, and now it seems a good bit tight on the selector, I mean like it's taking more effort than it should on the shift lever to move from P to D and all.
I put a new shift tube / shaft / bushings / and clamps in it, greased it good, but didn't think to check the shift cable assembly for good action while it was loose.
Anyway, I thought maybe I'd pop it loose at the tranny and see how the cable drag feels by itself, that might help determine if I'm binding somewhere up in the new column parts or the cables on it's way out.
It looks like the eye on the rigid part of the cable end just snaps on to the tranny arm pin, put it wouldn't just pull off of there today like I hoped. Is there a trick? Jay
Jay,
I'm assuming you figured this out by now, but I am getting ready to get into the same thing. What did you figure out AND how did the whole process go for you on the shift tube assembly? Thanks
