I have a 2003 V10 4X4 and just scored a complete set of U code front springs and P code rear springs that were pulled from a 2003 F250 4X4 within a month of purchase. So these are basically new springs.
The P code springs didn't come with the thick overload spring on the bottom of the spring pack.
From my research the P code specs out the same as the B code. I was wondering if I could modify the P code springs with the two short excursion springs, like the modified B code springs, and forget about the overload spring. I could cut off the slapper bar and use that piece for a spacer about the same thickness as the overload spring.
My heaviest tow is a 8,000# trailer with a tongue weight of around 800# so I don't think I'd ever get into the overload spring with towing this trailer!
Any news from the OP on the install? I just picked up a set of U/P codes discarded from a lift-job. I'm curious about how B-modding the P's went on the X.
The U/P code springs worked out great. I modified the P springs just like others have done to the B springs. Very happy with the outcome and the handeling of the X. My springs came off of an F250 diesel.
From looking at pictures of X's with the B modified springs, I would say the modified P's height looks the same as the modified B springs.
