I was checking for vacuum leaks last night and I found one on the back of the carb where the PCV line runs to. Right now there is no fitting or anything back there - just a 3/8" metal line with rubber insulation to seal it off. Is there any way to make it more secure/completely seal it off?
The rest of my vacuum lines are good so I think this is my only leak (for now).
Thanks for your reply. It is working and was hooked up. I was spraying carb cleaner (looking for leaks) and it is clear there is one in this location. Is there supposed to be a fitting screwed into the carb that a vacuum hose would go on to create an air tight seal. Right now it is just a metal line that sits in the vacuum port on the carb. I will try to snap some pictures tonight.
Metal end with a rubber sleeve over it? Usually this is a "press fit" nipple that can come loose from the carb. Under that rubber sleeve, is a joint in the metal line. The nipple is supposed to stay in the carb, while the rest of the metal line can separate at the rubber sleeve.
Pull the nipple out of the rubber sleeve, and carefully tap it back into the carb. Adding a little sealer isn't a bad idea. Then replace the rubber sleeve (most likely hard as a rock by now) and reassemble.
Thanks Rogue_Wulff, that makes sense now. Is there any particular sealer you would recommend for that press fit into the carb? I'll definitely replace the rubber too as it is starting to rot. Thanks again guys!
Funny, I said i was going to look at mine and sure enough it was loose too. I used a little permatex and gave it a few taps , i save leftover hose and that was it, found a 2" scrap! I see RW got you set, Perfect!!
