my ranger will not go unless I put it in Drive, (continue reading before commenting please) meaning if I put it in the normal o/d spot nothing! if I'm doing 50 MPH and stop at a red light the truck will not move when I try and leave the light, it acts like its in nuetral, but if I manually downshift it to D while I'm slowing down its fine, once Im going 40 I put it back into O/D and it shifts no problem, if I manually upshift to O/D to early (30 MPH) it goes into nuetral and I need to downshift to drive again and wait until I'm going faster to put it back in O/D, any smart guys that can help?, the ex works at the Ford trans plant in SH Mich. but I would not like to ask her for help...
Had this happen in my 2.3-L mustang. Drove her like that for awhile before replaced with a used transmission. If this is the only problem in the tranny you MIGHT consider repair. How many miles on this transmission, what's the fluid look like, and have you had any other unhappiness with this transmission. (If you are leaning towards fixing, maybe early on in the process drop the pan and see what kind of debris is on the fliter. More stuff = less chances tihis transmission will live long and prosper).
PS: oops saw your second last sentence. Hope you hear from a smart/lucky guy!
I bought the truck in fl. And the trans was shot, pulled one out of a totaled one that looked taken care of, before I put it in changed filter and total fluid change do not know mileage, one day rolled up to a light and wouldn't go, figured out this new way to drive it on accident, have no problem tearing into it just hoping to know what to look for...
Its not the button style like my diesel so its a hassle to down shift when I need to stop, I live in the country where its either 55 or 70 so always cruising in OD
Thanks papaw what's TRS ? Im thinking it started a week prior of acting like it was slipping only into OD and then I stopped at a light and it would not go, shut it off put it in Drive and off it went, if Im under good power and manually shift to OD it will not engage until I let off the gas and then it catches and away I go, I believe if at 70you if I really accelerated when it would kick down it would totally slip...
TRS = Transmission Range Selector, its on the side of the tranny case, to which is fastened the shift linkage.
Seeing as how you said the tranny had been replaced, I thought maybe something may have come loose & was out of adjustment, but maybe not, with you saying in your last post that it seems to be slipping under certain conditions.
OR, maybe you have more than one problem, like dirty oxidized fluid causing sludge, gum, varnish deposits that are mucking up something in the valve body, shift solenoids, torque converter, or clogging the filter up & messing with the tranny pump delivery rate or pressure????
If you think the latter may be possible, maybe consider a pan drop, filter change & full fluid pumpout as outlined at the bottom of our "Tech Info" thread atop this forum. Our auto tranny seems to be very sensitive to deposits, so it doesn't seem to take much to cause them to act out.
If none of the above seems plasuable, maybe consider running this puppy by a trusted tranny shop & have them scan the tranny computer for trouble codes & post All code numbers, as they can offer up good trouble shooting clues.
More thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.
