why buy a ford?
I have a 2012 F-350 CC 4x4 6.7. At the time I thought it was the best decision of the 3 brands. Now after only 2500 miles the DEF message says 450 miles to empty. Everyone around here that has a new Ford with DEF, has never had to put any in, only when they change the oil at 6-7K. One of the other pickups is a feed truck that has a lot of idle tims and the other one is mainly a highway driver, but he drives about 85 on the interstate. I drive normal only got on it once or twice(you have to see how it will run out of the box). I drive probably 80% highway and 20% city, towed with it only a couple of times. My question is why did everybody pick Ford and not a GM or Ram. A couple of my buddies have Rams and one is gutless, but the other one will run and pull anything he puts behind it. I don't know of anyone with a GM. Just wondering why everyone else went with the blue oval.

More than likely your dealer did not fill up the def all the way before you picked it up. I went with Ford after being a lifelong GM guy for a few reasons. I am sick of the outdated GM interior, the technology in the Ford is better (sync, etc.), and I didn't have to put a lift on the Ford in order to get 35" tires under it. The thing I miss about GM is the Duramax/Allison combo, and it also seems GM stands behind their warranty better. Would I buy a Ford all over again? At this point yes. We will see what happens with the reliability of this motor and trans and see how Ford treats their customers in the future to see if my company and I am a repeat customer.

WHY BUY A FORD?????????? thats like asking why not to buy a GM..
I have never seen any vehicle stand up to what a ford does. we,ve beat the living ---- out of all our vehicles and only the fords are still running.
once used a 94 ranger to tow 10,000 lbs up mopuntain grades. yea it was barely moving 1st gear with the pedal down! when we got where we were going the truck would not move. the transmission was glowing red and was boiling out of the top vent. after a good cool down and a few quarts of fluid its still running 50,000 miles later. and the tranny hasnt been touched.
put over 4,000lbs of dirt in the same truck. hauled it fine.
99 f350. srw. 7.3 4x4
drove it through a ditch at 60 mph, no problems. put over 6,000lbs of river rock in this one and took it up the same mountain grades with no problems.. towed 15,000lbs while hauling 2,000lbs from vegas to phx, once again no problems..
and this is just my dad and I. the whole family beats the crap out of our fords.
just remember, when it hits the bump stops it just means now you can put on even more.

I bought the Ford because I liked the Cab and interior much better than GM. I also thought that Ford might treat adopters of their new diesel better than previous engines.
I would still consider a Ford today. This will probably change with the next iteration of thee GM truck as long as they make the cab larger and nicer.
I also do not support a company that needs government backing to survive. If the Cummins comes equipped with urea in 2013, it would be my first pick if I was going back to the drawing board.

I went with the ford SD because when you attach a trailer to it the truck is the most well behaved tow vehicle I could find. For longevity, the suspension and drivetrain is over engineered enough to hold up for longer periods of time. We got tired of rebuilding the front suspension on silverado 3500's every 50,000 miles.

Even cheaper if you have access to a truck stop with the new DEF pumps. Flying J was $1.76 a gallon for it!
