I want to take the old bench seat out of my 79 F-150 and replace it with something that is more comfortable and has a console. I was thinking I would go down to the pick and pull and get a seat out of a newer Ford pick-up. Does any have any recommendations ans to what seats fit the best and require minimal fab work?
Well the only one that will fit the easiest is a bench from a F series all the way up to the 96 model style. Just swap the bottom brackets and it will bolt right in.
I took seats and a jump seat out of a 06 f150 and they fit pretty easy and look really nice. only took a little bit of fab work, but probably not the best seats if your over 6' tall. Im 5'11" and I made the bottom mount as short as possible to make them sit lower and Im still gonna cut down the bottom and back seat cushion to help with adding room.
About 25 years ago, I replaced the bench seat in my '76 F350 supercab with a set of 40/60 split seats out of a '78 Olds 98. Tan color of the Olds seat was a very close match to the tan vinyl in the truck. I'm no fabricator, for sure, but I really didn't have much trouble adapting the seats to fit the truck. I removed all of the Olds h/w when I took the seats, and removed all traces of the bench seat from the truck before I started. I used my torch to cut down an old metal fireplace lentil to make the pieces I needed. I used stacks of washers to make up height differences where needed, and used the factory holes (and Grade-8 bolts) for attaching my homemade bracketry. The Olds seats were 6-way power, so I re-wired to accommodate. I have about 4 inches of space between the seats. I'm using GM seatbelt receptacles (the female ends) that come through the gap between seat back and bottom. The OEM integrated shoulder/lap belt fits into the Olds receptacle. My only regret is that I got seats out of a 4-door instead of a 2-door, so backrests don't tilt forward, which would have been nice in my supercab.
