electric pump
My '69 Bronco w/ 302 left me stranded ONCE. Bombing down the highway at 65 and it just died. All power quit (like it ran outta gas) but it was instantaneous. Had plenty of fuel in the tank (new tank). I replaced the distributor & coil with a pertronix setup, new wires and plugs. Fired right up and been trouble free for going on 4 years now. Might be worth trouble shooting the ignition in your setup.
As far as electric fuel pumps: I've run a Carter 4070 and had it start over pressurizing the system for whatever reason. Couldn't find an over the counter replacement in any chain store in Southern CA but they ALL carried the Holley Red fuel pump. Made the switch and never looked back. Hollys are expensive (about $109) but a great pump and everyone stocks it in the case you need a new one. I run a Quadrajet carb on mine and it's finicky about the pressure. I run a holley regulator and liquid filled gauge and have it set to 5.5 psi at the carb. Runs damn near as good as fuel injection.
