I have a 99 5.4 all wheel disc and I'm trying to take apart the steel line from the rubber hose on the rear right wheel. To me it doesn't look like it comes apart. Can this be a dealer item ? I just posted the pic in my album...you can view it there for a closer look. I have it cleaned up pretty good.
Pretty sure it comes apart. The brake line where it goes into the nut most likely turn with the nut and break off. If your replacing the lines it don't matter.
Brake lines on the 97-? Have steel lines that rust to pieces. My 03 screw has mostly factory coated brake lines. Definitely one of Fords better ideas.
I think you can buy the coated lines at Advance Auto too.
yes thanks. I have since learned that yes it should come apart. Looking at the manual it says to use a flare wrench to remove then nut the remove the retainer clip. I had already taken the entire assembly off from the caliper so I can work on the bench. Looking at the nut (if you can call it that ) it's completely round. It doesn't look like it's been stripped. I've had the truck 10 years and don't remember ever taking that off.
In any event, it's been sprayed many times with wd40 on different occasions and I can not seperate those 2 lines. I put vice grips on the nut on the hose side and another pair on the round (nut) on the steel line side and gave 'er everything I had to no avail.
I called the dealer and they want $125.00 for the assembly. Hell no, there's gotta be a better way.... anyone ?
