Help ID this steering column

Just spent $300 on a borgeson shaft that is almost twice too long. Borgeson thinks my truck has been modified and that is why their shaft won't fit.

To humor them I took some pictures of the column and now think that could be part of the problem.

Can someone knowledgeable of F series trucks & broncos ID this steering column? It is not what was in the truck originally. The OEM gear indicator is in the dash on the stock F350. This column has a steering indicator on the column itself.

Also it looks like the mounting plate at the firewall is of a different size.

Is this from a 70's model F truck, or from a different type of vehicle altogether?

Inside Firewall:

Column & steering wheel:

Bottom of column next to firewall.

Can someone even post some clear pics of thier OEM F-350 steering column (to compare to the pics above). The side inside the firewall/engine area would be most helpful to compare too.

The steering column gear indicator reminds me of what was in my 1978 F100.

Hm, you may be on to something.

The mounting plate on my current column looks a lot like this shape here:

My 1995 F700 has the same gear indicator on the steering column, and the column appears the same except for the wheel itself is larger on the F700. It could have easily been swapped out though.

Not mine, but this is what they look like:

It's close, not sure the same though.

Here are some better pics of the gear indicator up top:

Your indicator shows it was from a vehicle that had overdrive. I don't think there were any 1979 and older trucks that had overdrive auto's. Plus the F700's don't have park. They have R N D 3 2 1. So it shouldn't be from an F700 either.

The trucks had the gear indicator behind the clear bezel, along with the speedo/tach/other gauges. That one with the indicator on the column looks to me like it came from a sedan.

Here's the dash before removal. My transmission is a C6, no overdrive.

AOD shift indicator dial, AOD first introduced in misc 1980 Passenger Cars. Due to how dial (7A213) is made, location of it, column appears to be from an Econoline (see pics). AOD introduced in 1981 E/F100/150.

1980's cars with column shift had cable controlled instrument cluster mounted shift indicator dials similar to F100/350 & Bronco.

Notice how the lower section of cutout for T/S handle in upper flange is shaped. Column swapped because someone wanted a tilt wheel. Press the turn signal handle forward = BOING!

Brake pedal pad installed upside down.

Any idea what this might have come from? Van perhaps?

Thanks. This of course doesn't show the length of #3415.

I work during the week and have second job on the weekends, makes it very hard to get out to the junkyards when they are open.

Hoping a kind soul will be able to post some pics of their 80-86 F-350 column as it enters the engine compartment. I think seeing what *should* be there will let me know if what I have now is absolutely too long. If the OEM shaft is equally long (again, the bit that sticks out of the firewall), then I have bigger problems.

Some pics of actual columns in the firewall would be most helpful.

Text section may show length, but no see um 3415.

I can post pics of any 1980/89 truck column you desire, but you don't have a truck column now. So what was in there originally, a tilt or non tilt column?

Most likely non tilt, because Econoline column is tilt. What other reason could there be to swap columns?

Borgeson shaft replaces 3B676 lower steering shaft & coupler assy.
