I plan on changing my plugs. What size socket do i need?Is there a specific part # for the right autolite plug i need? I have heard so much about thread lenght and such and want to be sure to install the right plug on my 2000 model. Any tips?
ps: it is a shame i have to ask these things to change just plugs!
Man, I don't blame you. With all the talk about flying plugs!!!! Mine has 90,000 miles on it and I want to change them.....but it runs perfect. Keep us posted and good luck. Sorry I'm no help cause I haven't touched mine yet.
JKBridges has a spark plug section on his web site that is really good. I think he went wit OEM Autolite plugs. I plan to do mine in the next several weeks. Let us know how yours turn out.
I got the bosch platinum 2's and I noticed the threads were completely longer. Im going to slap hopefully this weekend. I have put in hundreds of plugs and im actually nervous about these
So let me ask a dumb question about the heater hose around #4 plug. If this is causing the plug to blow out, is there something I can do to my F350 now that will prevent it all together? My 2000 F350 V10 has 31,000 miles on it and if I can do something to prevent the coolant leaking on the plugs now, would that make it so the chances of this happening are reduced?

It also says the OE plug is the Platinum. Hope it helped.
1. While the OE plug is platinum, it is Motorcraft, not Bosch.
2. Autolite's part APP103 is the direct replacement.
3. The Super 7580 is non-platinum and will definitely cause problems.
4. Bosch plugs have a somewhat spotty reputation in large engine applications, IMHO. If you must use Bosch, the Plat2 or 4 would be better choices than the standard.
5.NGK makes an iridium plug for about $12 that is rumored to better than stock.
At $12 it should be.
I have 103,400 miles and as far as I know they are original. I had a FQR engine installed at 44k so I'm not sure if they gave me new plugs with it or not. I did get to see it in the crate before it was installed. Didn't see any plugs. Part of me wants to change them. Part of me is saying if it aint broke don't fix it. I certainly don't want to start changing them and run into major parblems. What to do, what to do...
i think you'll know when they go bad. i just turned 100k a few weeks ago, and it seems like whin the odometer tripped over, the thing started skipping under load in OD. a fresh set of plugs fixed the prob immediately. oddly enough, the milage was/is unaffected.
Tip:
A piece of rubber fuel/vacuum hose that will fit over the tip and the top of the ceramic will hold the plug, to allow threading it into the aluminum head, while not allowing too much torque, preventing cross-threading. After the plug is started, pull off the hose, and insert the socket/extender to finish. Don't forget the anti-seize for the threads!
Just changed mine last Friday - took 3 hours. Another tip - After removing the coil and blowing out the plug holes - lossen the plug about a half-turn, then blow it out again. I noticed that the crud that is trapped and had become hardened around the plug will not blow out the first go 'round. Anti-Sieze is a must!
I used the Motorcraft Platinum (factory) plugs AWSF 22E. I wanted to change to another plug but my serviceman urged me to stay with the standard plug. His opinion was that the other plugs could be causing the plug blowout. It was hard for me to accept this, but since my truck is still under warranty (extended) i went ahead and installed the factory's. I would suggest those 1st timers (like me) to unplug the coil first and be real careful with those small wires! I'm 6'2" tall and weigh about 250LB and man i can tell ya' it was a job getting to those back two plugs on the passenger side. Also I would suggest smearing a little Vaseline around the two seal ridges of the coil before reinstalling them. This may help keep out the dust.
