E-brake pedal question

Hey guys,

When I use my e-brake it will either engage at about midway down, or the pedal will go almost all the way to the floor. Sometimes it feels like it's gonna grab at the midpoint, then it slips or something, and presses all the way down.

I haven't looked at it yet because it's not a huge deal and I figured I'd ask here to begin with anyway. Any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks for the help.

If i recall the problem will be in the pedal mechanism. I changed one out on an 05 f450 that did the same thing. Theres a pawl that was stripped out, or theres a broken piece in their, cant remember which. If you work the pedal by hand and look at the mechanism youll see what im talking about.

One other thing, watch the piece that the ebrake cable connects to when youre testing it. I think youll find that when it screws up that the piece the cables connected to will stay stationary as your pedal keeps traveling.

Thanks guys I'll check it out. I do think it's in the pedal mechanism, so I'll poke around there first.

I replaced my pedal assembly twice because of what you're describing. The third time it broke I didn't want to spend another $100, so I drilled a hole through the two pieces that were slipping and bolted them together. The pedal has been fine since, there is no self adjusted anymore, so I have to adjust it at the rear wheels from time to time.

I've also had two front cables break, mine gets used everyday since the truck has a six speed though.
