1964 f100 300 I6 swap, mod ?s

Acquired a 300 straight six out of a 78 f150, all stock, and want to swap it into my 64, was curious of different mods I could do to this engine to wake it up. Just wanted some advice on what intake, header, carb, cam and whatever other options I have... This is my great grandfathers truck and is going to be an awesome project! Thanks in advance!

There is a whole forum devoted to the inline 6 here.

Ford Inline Six, 200, 250, 4.9L / 300 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Guys add Offy or Clifford intakes, 4 bbl carbs, EFI exhaust manifolds or headers. Cams, etc. There's quite a lot that can be done to the 300 I-6 to wake it up some.

Earl, 1st thing you will need to get a side mount conversion, as the engine in your truck is front mount. The 240/300 was not offered until 65.

Ok thanks! Sorry I'm kind of new to the forum and am still figuring out how to navigate/search for different things.. I'll look on that thread and see what I can find

Sorry but I guess I don't know the difference between side and front mount? My dad fabricated mounts for a 292 but it has long since been removed

I'll be replacing my 240 with a 300 I plan to rebuild. Im not looking to wake mine up unless the mod improves gas mileage. But I remember reading that people get a boost in compression by using a 240 head on a 300 eng. The 2 engines are identical except for the stroke of the crank.

Check out Trozei's 300 I-6 build in his project on the bumpside forum. Lots of component selections recorded and the rationale behind them.
