EGR delete Tips

With the help of Longviews posting with pictures and stuff I did the same this weekend. I wanted to post about what I learned and things that could make life easier for the next person. His posting was great but I want to add more to make life even easier for those who wants to venture this task.

I chose the same kit b/c I wanted the pipe and PTP had a decent price for the product.

1..I put a 5 gallon bucket under radiator and put a hose on the nipple and then loosened the plastic bolt but not all the way. I did spill some fluid when dismantling the coolers and stuff but feel I would have had enough fluid when completed. While it was draining I took care of the batter and the tray/degas bottle/top radiator hose.....

2. The two bolts for the horizontal cooler I used a 10 mm closed 12 pt wrench I guess that is what you call it. I then used luckily I have a about 6 inch pipe that goes to my jack and attached it to the wrench as a breaker bar.

3.. Remove the 2 ridgid radiator pipes that are connected to front of block. One you will have to remove and block off for the delete but the ""\Y" one should be removed also. I nicked mine either removing the horizontal cooler or the bracket for the cooler and will have to see dealer in the morning.

4.. Do not worry about the steel straps for the horizontal cooler. You will remove them when removing the whole bracket piece. I lost about 1 1/2 hrs f***ing with that part and could not get those straps out b/c they are attached in the back.

5... When you are removing the EGR valve assembly, there is one bolt somewhat blocked by a ridgid coolant pipe. Don't worry about that pipe, it is coming out and not being re used so manhandle it to the side.

The coolers removal is tough due to lack of space. Air tools were nice so I did not have to hunch over as long trying to manually remove bolts I can't even see.

Good luck.

I'm hearing that Nebraska is starting to check for thwarted emission systems.

Here is a picture of the pipe that I broke. It was a hose/wire retaining clip.

I know in FL there a 3 counties that do that right now but I am in a rural county so I hope it went get that far to check emissions
