changing differential fluid

how should i go about changing the diff fluid in my 1990 f250 4x4. the rear diff seems easy enough to pull off the plate and let it drain. but the front with the i beam setup seems like a pain in the ***. my auto tech teacher told me just to suck it out with a turkey baster or something. any recomendations?

Sucking it out of the diff is the easiest way.

Is the diff a dana 44 or a dana 50. My 91 axle is a dana 50 and it has a square plug on the center section itself.

You can suck it out, but a turkey baster won't work. You need something with a hose that will reach all the way to the bottom of the diff. I used to use a suction gun when I had TTB trucks. Looks like a grease gun but it's more like a huge syringe. Just pull back the plunger to suck the oil out.

That's what I did. I was dumbfounded when I pulled the fill plug and oil started coming out, but when I started sucking out the fluid I found that it was full of water.

Consider installing a plug at the bottom. It's not that difficult.

If you're talented in the word of drilling and tapping your own holes.

Just don't drill the hole O.D. to close to the tap size O.D. Plug will strip out easier.
