Well I'm sure you guys are annoyed by this question and the point I have been going back and for between the stock 351m or swapping to a 460. Well I found a guy who builds engines in my neighborhood. His garage is awesome and set up for it. He was a drag racer for many years and now that he is retired he just does this on the side to get some extra cash. I did some research before I talked with him about what I would do to get what I wanted. Everything that he said he was going to do lined up with what I wanted so I will give him a little trust. He was recommended to me by an acquaintance.
Well now to the real question I need to get some headers. I don't want to spend a lot. But I don't want to get a set that is going to go bad in the first week. It is only going to be a highway truck so nothing to fancy. I don't mind them not being painted or coated. I don't want fender exit! I do have a 4X4 so gotta take that into account. It has a C6 tranny.
Never shopped for headers so any of your experiences would be great!
Wow that is a lot of writing but I hope you got enough info.
w/ owning many p/u's w/ and w/out headers that are daily drivers I personally have come to believe that the p/u's I have w/out the headers AND a 'true' dual exhaust perform better than those that have headers ...I just recently swapped out the headers from my 78 f150 4x4 for a set of stock manifolds and 2-1/4" dual exhaust all the way back to behind the rear axle and as a plow truck is runs great! w/out any heat problems to the starter or rust issues down the road..if you were going to 'run' the truck as in really 'run' it you may see a benefit from the headers

Just a little advice, if you go with headers have them coated. Uncoated or painted headers will rust in a few weeks and you will be sick of them everytime you open the hood.
JB78F150, i used headers from Sanderson, i think the part number is FC3. Great quality, thick flanges and I got mine ceramic coated which I would suggest you do unless you don't care about having them rust through after a few years and look bad. The only thing I don't like about them is that the hole in the collector flange is really close to the tube and is a b***tch to get a wrench on the bolts / nuts to tighten the collector coller. I guess I'm not sold on headers completely yet either. I still have heat issues under the hood with coated ones and if I still have stalling issues this summer (from heat none the less), I will seriously think about going back to the stock manifold. BTW: 9.5 compression for that engine is not really "performance" specs. I am close to that for compression and don't have anything really wild inside the motor but am happy with it.
I didn't look at your link before you posted this, but Summit makes a set that for your engine that used to sell for $99. I think they've gone up about $20 or so. I'd just buy those if you're not lookin for anything fancy. You can buy some high temp paint and paint them to give them some kind of protection if you'd like. Just install/tighten everything the correct way and they should treat you well. Don't know about how they fit for the 351m/400s, but the set made by flowtech (holley) that I bought for my 390 went right on no issues.
Edit: Just looked at the link, the first set is what I was talking about.
summits worked well on my 79 with a 351m & C6. they are not fenderwell and its a pretty tight fit. gotta take the motor mounts loose but other than that wasnt too bad.
He shoots, he scores. My buddy down the street is going to give me a complete 351m with headers, 400 performer 4 barrel intake, Holley carb, A/C brackets. And the best part for FREE. He also has front and rear sway bars he is going to give me too.
