im putting the exact same setup on my truck.. TURN IT UP 'CUZ IT SOUNDS WICKED,, mustangs kick a$$!!!!!!!!
guy says its a 289 with summit headers, 2-1/2 dual pipes, thrush welded muffs... thrush welded chambered on mustang 67 - YouTube
Sounds like a typical cheap exhaust job. That whistling is terrible. A lot of its awesome does not come by virtue of a well made exhaust, but by the fact that the car is inside a garage or carport, which creates an echo.
If I paid someone to install that, I'd ask for my money back. I've heard better.
The challenge with exhaust sound is that it is more of a personal preference. What sounds great to someone may sound terrible to someone else. There are certainly a lot of different exhaust options/sounds out there...
Dude, it whistles, it can't sound much cheaper than that. Mean sounding and cheap often go together. The mark of a quality exhaust is that it sounds mean without sounding cheap.
Let me make a guess what he did wrong. He has a small block 289 and probably stuck a 600 CFM carb on top. Wrong! He a small breathing heads not helped by a big carb and is using 2 1/2" pipes which are too large. Last I don't like loud noise exiting the rear. One thing about the true muscle cars of the late 60's and early 70's, this Mustang is not a muscle car, is that they had a sound that let you know a big block was there but it wasn't in your face. Today you can hear the some understated sound in a Shelby or Boss 302. No need to scream it to the world in those cars.
I have a 68 289 Mustang and would never think of doing that to the car. I also have a J code 302 Cougar with a correctly built engine using the Ford Performance Parts book from the early 70's. Just put on Hooker Maxflows on it and I was surprised at how quiet it is compared to the old turbos from the 70's. The car has a very low deep rumble at idle and only slowly builds as speed increases but it is never loud it is understated. The Mustang above simply screams I have a loud exhaust on a stock engine.
