I cheated to get the glass out of the vent frame (51 F1) - the glass was already broken so I really made it into small pieces to get it out of the frame. Now how do I get the window frame out of the window channel? I have removed the lock nut and spring. There is a round 'washer' on top of the spring and an eccentric stop on the other side of the washer. I have been unable to budge them and I don't want to do anymore pounding or twisting on the assembly for fear of breaking it. I will have to have the window frame plated. Need advice. Thanks.
Do you have a workshop manual? I assume not. They are all over eBay and other places for about $30. The best investment you can make.
The frame is held into the door with screws (5?) that go thru the stationary part of the vent frame into the door. The division bar also has a screw at the top, and two bolts access thru the access panel on the door. The division bar comes out first, then the vent frame.
I think you're talking about the vent window frame and the bottom pivot of it in the outer frame which mounts into the door. That pivot is revited and does not unscew...if that's you mean.
Have you actually done this? The eccentric between the rivited 'U' bracket and the stainless window channel must somehow be held to the vent frame pivot shaft. This allows the spring to be tightened to put tension on the vent window opening/closing. It also serves as a stop for the closed and max open position in addition to centering the frame in the window channel.. Does anyone know if the vent frame can be plated while in the stainless window channel?
Of course the shop manual is silent on this except to discuss adjusting the spring.
Hey ALBUQ F1 - you are absolutely right. I went to the other vent window. The eccentric and big washer on the under side of the 'U' fitting were loose. A little WD 40 and the vent window came right out of the channel frame. I now know I have to work on the other one to get the eccentric and washer loose. Thanks for the info. Bill
Be sure to take a picture of the order things go together! (or come apart) The first one of mine I did had been incorrectly assembled, and I put it back exactly the same way, never worked right. From a previous thread on here, I found out the correct order; the screwdriver in the one pic is representing the bottom bracket of the frame:
