Does the ABS modulate each break line/circuit individually or are they paired up front/back ?
Why the hell is the ABS so noisy in the my E-150 comparing it to other vehicles?
The break pedal height changes, pushing foot back. when ABS comes on.
I am asking this as yesterday we had freezing rain then and inch of snow, the perfect traction nightmare. I run Goodyear Severe Snow Conditions Wranglers which have proven great in all condition. Everyone was slipping all over but no accidents anywhere!!
I could have put on a drifting class yesterday, it was a hoot! Over all my E was well composed for the weather.
Would guess a '97 conversion van has the older RABS 3 circuit system?
The newer 4 wheel ABS was standard on Club Wagon, but optional on other models.
Hard to try answering Q w/o knowing what you got.

However, if you're accustomed to the rather passive RABS it's common to notice the quite energetic 4 circuit system is "noisy" & feel pulsing in brake pedal when ABS is activated.
Icy all over might not be the best conditions to test ABS. Better to find safe spot where you can drive w/2 tires on pavement & 2 on grass, dirt or snow. Try low speed panic stops w/good traction one side, lousy traction on the other.
