Fan in engine compartment question

A fan in the engine compartment came on yesterday for the first time. I was empty doing 65. The truck has 25k. 6.4l. Truck is stock no mods. The fan that engages is loud like a blower. No check engine or wrench light. Temp Gage is normal and the degas bottle is at the proper level. The fan will dis engage for 20 miles then when I get in town it will engage doing 10-20 mph. Input would be appreciated thanks.

Normal non towing driving usually does not engage the clutch fan.

I would tend to think maybe you have a sticking thermostat issue.

With no codes or check engine light it is hard to tell.

If you have something that you can monitor temps with then you may know if it is an issue or not.

Other things that effect fan operation are hvac controls as well. The fan is electronically controlled btw.

Is this truck new to you or have you had it since new and this is something that has not happened before?

Bought it at 18500. It was just at the dealer for oil change n fuel filter replace ment. This is the first time I have heard it engage in 7k miles. How does the hvac control the fan?

The fan would come on if needed to if you needed AC. I may also come on if it needs to cool the fuel cooler.

For mine at around 220F the fan will engage. There are a couple of different settings.

Since you are under 36K miles you may have some bumper to bumper left so you could perhaps speak with the service advisor and see if they can check the operation of the fan for you...

It appears to be operating normally based upon your discription.

You could get a scangauge II to monitor those temps.
