Hello guys, I just got a 2005 lariet f-150 with the 5.4. I am considering giving mike at 5star a call because I want more mpg's and throttle response. So all you guys who have gone that route, what are some realistic improvements in those categories if I go with 5star?
You'll definitely get a throttle difference with the drive by wire engines, personally of all the gas engines I have had tuned I have never seen a mileage increase with a tuner.
the only things that i have found for better mpg is full exhoust system header back high flow cats, good intake system and the cooler air you can get into the engine the better, the only programmer i trust is super chips and that only bc i feel they give their programs the most research and give out the best results. i know with the super chips you can control almost everything electrical on your vehicle ( rear end gears, tire size, throttle response, air to fuel ratio, and im sure a few more but nothing iv ever messed with. other than that those are the things i have found to get better fuel milage.
^ You can do the same thing with the SCT X3 im running with tunes from Mike @ 5 Star. His tunes really woke my 5.4 up, and if you do some reading on FTE you will see he is the best for our gas engines. Dont except a mpg increase though, or at least nothing significant
