I recently installed a sunpro water temp gauge in my 93 f250 because my factory gauge is broke. I'm wondering what your guys trucks run for temp? At 55-60mph I'm running 215 degrees and at 70mph I'm running about 220. Is this a pretty average temp?
x2 with what john said. I managed to find a 170 at the case ih dealership in billings MT and my aftermarket gauge doesnt get above 180 when I am pushing her with a load on the rear end,....
with the sensor placed in the stock location,i see about 195-220 with the grill cover on this time of year.in the summer i let her run up to 225-235 before i have the e-fans start to tone her back down.
if it's over 195 and under 240 your good to go.one way or the other (at the stock location) your outside the normal operating temp of the idi.
i noticed without my front air dam on and the newer slotted bumper even with the grill cover on she was having a hard time maintaining 200.got the dam back on,and will be plugging up them fuel economy killing holes with lights.

your temp sensor location, your gauge type, mixture ratio and cap rating? somethings not correct or reading correctly.
185-190 isn't even the t-stats open temp yet.fully open t-stat is 212.
fyi; this is handy little bugger! http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Temperatur...7786958&sr=8-1
helped me find my gauge was reading too high.it needed a devoted ground and cured the issue.
another thing to remember,a bit rare; the fan clutch can sometimes fail in a locked condition.this is worse imho cus it's a massive power and economy hog.
I have my sunpro set in the old opening for the gp controller in the head. It never gets above 210. Even last year when we pulled our old 21' camper down to Sand gap ky it never got over 210. It was 98* by 11 am in Berea lol that weekend. I only hit 210 going up a long steep run on us 421 south of Big Hill. My fan is also non functional as far as I know as it has never engaged (least I have never heard the "roar").
