a friend has a 6.0 truck with persistent EGR problems.
we were talking the other day and i suggested doing an EGR delete on it.
he asked me to see what was involved.
i have read up on it, and printed the how to.
then i went on RiffRaff site and see Clay has both the Elite and Sinister EGR delete kits.
any recommendations as to which one is better?
all i know is that it is a 6.0 and has been to the dealer at least 10 times in the past 3 years for EGR problems.
apparently the dealer says it is fixed, and a few weeks later the CEL comes back on and it is always EGR related.
he was saying he wants it fixed because he likes the truck, so i recommended doing the EGR delete.
i don't know other than the CEL comes on with an EGR code and the truck does not run rite.
from reading up on the EGR delete, if you just remove the valve you will get a CEL.
from what i have read, removing the valve and cooler solves the CEL light coming on.
I mean it could even be a thermostat Burning to cold and he is not getting proper combustion so its basicaly wet stacking and gumming up the EGR Valve. Has he had any sticky turbo issues???
I would also check IAT2,and EBP sensors and the Oil cooler
Just make shure there isnt an hidden issue and then Deleate it I went with the sinister good kit everything worked as advertised there are cheaper look alike kits IDK they werent around when I was looking
i think it is an 06.
as for fixing the problem causing the EGR codes, it has been to the dealer 10 times already that i know of, and they keep on saying it is fixed, and a few weeks later the problem comes back.
so it is time to eliminate the EGR and the problem.
On an '06 if he goes with the delete he'll have to have get custom tuning that turns off the EGR or he'll keep getting a CEL.
Like Benny/Cheezit said, see if you can get those code numbers and a little history of what's been done already. It could be other things that are causing the codes to be set and not necessarily the EGR itself.

I know there are good dealers and good service departments but just because a dealer says the truck is fixed doesn't mean a dang thing. They can either just not know how to fix the truck or they can be milking this guy knowing he keeps bringing it back to them.
I hate dissing dealers but I have found out the hard way that the two closest to me are not good. One I used to love dealing with but then they got a new guy in the service department and things went to hell in a hand basket.
well the dealer that has been trying to fix it is a diesel specialty shop. 3/4 of their service dept is diesel only.
and he is not paying for the return visits. ford is eating it because they can not fix it. so it is in the dealers best interest to fix it because they loose money every time it is there.
if i got to the shop later i will try to get more info on what codes it throws.
Keep taking it back. I wouldn't want a truck that you have to mask the issues. You never know when that issue may decide to become major. Like driving a time bomb. Get it fixed.
