My '91 f250 has a slight wiring mix up. With the key off and the headlights on the wipers and radio are functional. Also the connector on the headlights has been hot and melted. The radio is not factory and I have some issues with the power widows.
Wherevan I get a diagram or some type of reference as to what goes where for the wires?
Replace the headlight switch and the connector, both can be had at most parts places or RockAuto.com. That might not fix the other problems, but it sure is a step in the right direction. Pull out the radio and see if the original harness is still there, or if it was spliced. Its possible it was done right, but also very likely the PO is a moron and did it the hard (cut off and splice) method instead of just getting the right connector.
Do either of the wipers or radio work if the headlights are off?
What happens with the key on and the headlights off?
I think I've narrowed it down to the headlight connector. I checked the lights and wipers after some adjusting of wires and it was all as it should be.. so far
But there is a green/ yellow wire coming from the headlight switch that, along with the black/orange and tan/white wires, that is always hot. That same color wire is also always hot on the radio harness. Is this normal?
Ok well I'm sure that's all it is. I'm pretty sure the ground wire, and others, for the headlight switch were the problem. They were loose in the block and had came out of it enough to touch.
