I have a 1987 F150 4x4 with the straight six, bought it recently, my first Ford truck.
Sometimes the headlights go out while I'm driving, at the same instant they go out, the radio goes to static and none of the buttons to change station or anything work, all I can do is turn it off.
The headlights have come back each time (along with the radio, but without the presets) after a period of time. Once it was only a few minutes, other times 30 mins or so. Once they came back when I pounded on the top of the dash - not sure if that was a coincidence.
Rob , Check the fuses for the headlights & Instrument panel etc first , make sure they are all tight , I recently found one on my truck for the Inst panel loose & partially melted . Next , check the connecter on the headlight switch , there have been instances where that connecter has worked loose & done some heat damage there . You really need a wiring diagram for your truck to trace what wires are affected .
