I have posted on this topic before. Today I performed my first oil change and preventive maintenance inspection. Here are some photos, at this point I'm a bit dismayed by the condition of this nearly Forty Thousand Dollar piece of Machinery with only 3800 miles and 129 Engine hours.

My driveshaft looked like this when new and is made of rust now, oh well. It's made out of a ferrous metal.
Mercy on the pics. Yeah look around your truck you'll see more. There is a phenomenom known as rust creep where as rusty water from one part drips or is thrown to another, look around in the area of the drive shafts you'll see they are throwing rust everywhere. Other parts to look @ drag link, tie rod ends, engine block, transfer case mount, engine mounts, 4WD drive shifter link. Your correct they are ferrous metals, but I work on a 250' boat made of steel that sits in one of the most corrosive things known to man and it doesent look as bad as this Ford. JMHO they are penny pinching during manufacturing and turning out this rusty *****!!
That is the standard for the underside of trucks. It is shocking but it is what it is. I spray the crap out of mine every Fall with Fluid Film to yield the rust. Spray the King shocks and everything else underneath the truck. It does a good job.
The parts that aren't painted are like 1/4"+ thick steel. They aren't going to rust through or anything, but I know how it bugs you as I am very picky also.
